Overview
The Distributed Platform organization at Mastercard is looking for a Senior System Platform Engineer. The Senior System Platform Engineer will have proven experience architecting, designing, and implementing server based solutions. The position includes skills in automation, deployment, and maintaining the lifecycle of the platform. The Senior Systems Platform Engineer is mostly focused in engineering activities, but will act as escalated support when needed by the Operations team.
Typical duties and responsibilities
Proficient skills in designing, testing, and implementing automation for internal processes in Server Builds, Operating System management, Patch Management, and/or Configuration Management on physical and virtual infrastructure and operating systems.
Proficient knowledge and ability to create and/or modify scripts or code to provide automation, diagnostics, or logging for operational tasks that is standardized on behalf of the department.
Proficient to advanced collaboration skills in partnering closely with Operations as third tier support in trouble-shooting networking, operating systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational problems.
Basic to proficient knowledge and proven track record in developing processes and documentation to help increase functionality and efficiency of available infrastructure in Distributed Platforms.
Proficient knowledge and proven track record in engineering the Patch management lifecycle with ability to prepare, curate, stage, test and implement enterprise patching on operating systems.
Proficient to advanced knowledge in engineering the Linux (preferable RHEL, OEL, or similar distros) operating system management lifecycle in preparing, curating, testing and implementing new operating system images.
Proficient to advanced knowledge and ability to partner with Information Security in defining, designing, implementing and supporting Mastercard security policy standards.
Proficient knowledge and proven ability in installing, configuring and maintaining physical and virtual servers in an environment following Mastercard standards.
Proficient to advanced collaboration skills in partnering with program teams to define requirements.
Proficient to advanced knowledge and proven track record in developing processes and procedural documentation for architecture, design, and functionality of infrastructure in Distributed Platforms.
Proficient to advanced skills in creating and maintaining documentation for procedures, configurations, and programs and providing information to external teams.
Proficient leadership experience growing, mentoring, and motivating a team by instilling a technical process improvement culture within Distributed Platforms in a positive manner.
Proficient skills in working in an Agile environment to deliver solutions for internal Mastercard customers.
Required skills and qualifications (Linux)
Intermediate to advanced system administration experience with Linux servers in physical and virtualized environments including building systems with integration to enterprise tools and components.
Intermediate to advanced experience with automation technologies like Chef, Ansible, Puppet, and/or Shell scripting
Basic to intermediate skills coding in Ansible, Chef, Bash, Python or Ruby
Basic to intermediate skills in engineering Linux solutions
Written, verbal, and presentation skills
Skills in problem solving, multitasking, troubleshooting skills and attention to details
Desired skills and qualifications (Linux):
Basic to intermediate understanding of compute theory from hardware through serverless abstraction.
Experience working with containerization technologies (Kubernetes, Docker, etc.)
Ability to adapt to new technologies and changing business needs
RedHat (or similar) certification (Architect or Administrator)
